Eldoret - Peace Tournament

CHRISC is organizing a PEACE tournament in Eldoret one of its areas of operation, the main objective of the tournament is to “To promote peace building and
reconciliation efforts among youth facilitate life skills including information on HIV/AIDS and engage in leadership development though sports”.
The tournament will take place on 30th August, 2009 at Langas, Eldoret targeting 22 teams.
The post-election violence that struck Kenya in the weeks of January-February 2008 led to destruction and severe negative impact on individuals and
communities across the country. The division and hatred that developed between tribes nourished by the atrocities will require more than patience
and well-intentioned efforts by the authorities to be erased. The citizens themselves will have to engage in a comprehensive reconciliation process
in order to ensure peaceful co-existence in future. Engaging in such efforts is a major motivation behind CHRISC Kenya’s desire to arrange a Peace
tournament camp. Where young people from different and at times conflicting tribes and communities come together on mutual grounds with common goals,
they are challenged to communicate and interact in positive manners.
CHRISC – Kenya wishes, as its organization slogan says, to “Michezo kwa ufanisi wa vijana”, during the tournament, the organization will aim to challenge
the participants to look beyond tribal affiliations and their immediate “me”. By doing so, they can become part of advancing the levels of reconcilement
in the Kenyan society, and they can join in leaping another step towards peaceful co-existence between all Kenyans. Only through positive interaction,
increased knowledge and understanding acquired through sharing of views and experiences can this goal be achieved. Working towards reconciliation and
peaceful co-existence where hatred and mistrust is erased is therefore an overall objective for arranging the tournament, sports being used as a tool
and a uniting element when bringing youths together and initiate dialogue between them.
