Fahari is starting 2010 with new structure of leadership headed by Elizabeth Wairimu as the project leader assisted by other girls and young women leaders. Fahari targets to enhance more girls potential through sports and believes in leadership by girls for girls. The project has produced girls and young women leaders e.g. Edjidia Wachira who is participating in exchange program in Rwanda.

Fahari is a Swahili word which means, “be all you can be” is a girl project initiated by CHRISC Kenya in 2006. Its aim is to provide a positive force in girls’ development and train them in essential values, morals, life skills and strengthen their social interaction through giving them a opportunities to participate in sports so as to create an arena for self expressions thus boosting their self esteem, equipping girls with leadership and giving them different leadership roles within the organization.

Many young women have found themselves in compromising situations as a result of lack of life skills and being in the wrong company. Through sports and the spirit of sportsmanship the girls can learn how to respect and assert themselves, build their self esteem, learn about their health and develop a team spirit. By being involved in sports activities the girls can keep themselves busy and hence avoid engaging in unproductive activities.

This project has build good leaders in CHRISC as an organization who are role models in their communities. It’s encouraging seeing girls empowered and being able to take up leadership roles in the community and within the organization. Currently Fahari runs in Nairobi, Voi and Eldoret, where we have developed 50 girls between the ages of 10 to 19 yrs.
